Devotions for Kids: Don't Wait, Just Help
Devotions for Kids is a series meant for sharing so that everyone - family and community - can spend time in God's Word together with the children in their lives and grow in faith.
For from the greatness and the beauty of created things their original author, by analogy, is seen.
Wisdom 13:5
Have you ever created a work of art in finger paint? When you paint with your fingers, you cover them with whatever color paint you'd like and then you use your fingers instead of a brush to create something beautiful. The result is usually a painting that is a mix of many colors with swipes of different lengths and widths. No two finger painting works are exactly the same because your fingers, your fingerprints, are uniquely your own.
God has His own unique fingerprints too. But when God paints, the result is much different than what we create on pieces of paper. God's fingerprints create the whole world and everything in it! Our reading today calls God the Original Author, meaning He is the one who has brought, and continues to bring, all the colors and the joys of the world around us to life.
A shadowed mountain that looks so tall you can't even see the top of it is a work of God's finger painting. A sunset so full of color that it looks like paint has been spilled all across the sky is a work of art that only God's fingers can create. The foam of rolling waves when they crash along the beach are a perfect reflection of God's fingers, uniquely His own beauty.
Whenever we find God's fingerprints somewhere in the world, we are reminded that our Creator is a wonderful artist. God's finger paints are a gift to each of us; they show us how we can always find Him near to us. Every time you see a beautiful thing today, be reminded of the perfect finger painting God has made just for you because He loves you so much!
Let's pray: God, thank You for the finger paint of Your creation. Help me to always notice Your fingerprints, Your presence, and Your love in everything around me! Amen.
