Devotions for Kids: God Knows Your Name

Romans 16:3

Did you know that there are over 8 billion people living on earth today?  That's a lot of people!  But did you also know that even with all the other people in the world, God knows exactly who you are?  He does!  God sees you, knows the sound of your voice, your favorite color, what makes you happy or sad, your favorite food (and the food you don't like so much), and so much more.  God knows everything about you because He made you to be exactly who you are.  He knows your name perfectly.

One of the many incredible things about God is that He made the stars, the oceans, the mountains, and everything on earth.  After all of that, He made you and He knows your name even better than your best friend does.  There is no one else on the planet who is exactly like you.  You have your own thoughts, your own smile, your own laugh, and your own unique name.  That's just how God likes it because He sees you individually with nothing but love.

When you were born, your parents gave you your name; they chose it just for you.  But even before they thought about what your name would be, God already knew you.  Your name is etched on God's heart and He calls you by your name (even when you can't hear a voice!) because He wants to have a special, close relationship with you.

Think about it - God calls your name when He wants to comfort you if you're sad or feeling lonely.  He calls your name when He wants you to listen and make good choices that will keep you safe and close.  He calls you by name in every moment as a reminder that you are wonderfully made by God. 

Your name is important to God because everything about you is important to God.  When God calls you by your name, He is sharing a deep love for you in a very personal way - it's not just the love that He has for everyone; it's the love God has only for you!

Let's pray: God, thank You for loving me deeply and for knowing everything about me.  I know that I am never alone because You call me by my name in ways that no one else can.  Thank You for my name because it brings me closer to You!  Amen.
