And don't forget to check out my previous article; So, do you worry about things too marvelous for you?
I know I've talked about the Book of Revelation before (A very hopeful book of the Bible), but, as this goes live on All Saints day, I figured I'd write a little bit about this. One thing I have never quite understand is the fact that some Christians reject that those in heaven can pray for us.
Now, besides this being odd (as you'll find really no Christians making this claim until the Protestant reformation), I want to offer biblical evidence in support of the idea of intercession of the states. I don't want to get too deep in the weeds here, but, I want you to go read this, to understand that, yes, Catholics, as well as most other historical Christians, have a biblical basis for these beliefs.
In other words, besides patristic evidence (Intercession of the Saints), the Bible most certainly supports the idea that Christians who have preceded us to heaven, do pray for us.
“And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints, and they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom of priests to our God”.
So, note several things, 1) The elders and living creatures are offering the prayers of the saints (Christians on earth) before the Lamb. This is an act of intercession. 2) One of the arguments I hear in opposition to intercession of the Saints is the “one mediator” argument (1 Timothy 2:5), but, you'll find, number 3) The very same elders and living creatures, offering the prayers of the saints before the Lamb, use the language of 1 Timothy 2:6 (ALWAYS read verses in context) to explain what they're doing.
The Saints in heaven pray for you!
Happy All Saints Day!
