When the Unexpected Happens

“Don’t you have a project to do Catherine?” Mrs. Kramer asked, as she placed the last of the dishes in the dishwasher.
“Oh Mom,” Catherine replied, not wanting to be bothered. “I still have plenty of time to get it done.”
“There’s no better time than the present,” Catherine's mom replied, and grudgingly, Catherine, not wanting to do her project assignment, grumbled all the way to her room to start it.
As Catherine looked around her room, searching for the materials she needed, she suddenly realized she wasn't prepared. She didn’t have a poster board, or color pencils, or stencils or any of the other necessary supplies she needed. How could she turn in her project the following day if she didn’t have what she needed to get it done, she asked herself.
“I guess I’m going to have to ask Mom to drive me to the store,” she mumbled, now even more displeased with the situation. “I wish I didn’t have this dumb project to do. I want to go out with my friends and play, not work on a dumb ol’ project.”
Catherine, with head hung low, and feeling every bit sorry for herself, told her Mom she needed supplies and she needed to make a run to the store to buy them.
“Now Catherine,” Mrs. Kramer said, “how long have you known about this project and when is it due?"
“I’ve known about it awhile, Mom,” Catherine replied somberly, and it’s due tomorrow, but I haven’t had time to do it. I’ve been too busy!”
“Really?” Catherine’s mom replied curiously, not at all happy that Catherine had put off doing her project for so long. “With what, may I ask, Catherine?”
“With more important things, Mom,” Catherine exclaimed.
“No Catherine,” Mrs. Kramer replied. “Getting this project done should have been your first priority over everything else. You've known it for quite some time, yet you waited until the last minute to do it and now, you're not prepared. What do you have to say about that?”
I’m sorry Mom,” Catherine replied. “I guess I had my priorities mixed up. I hope it’s not too late for me to do a good job and get a good grade.”
“It’s only too late if you choose it to be, Catherine,” Mrs. Kramer replied, and out the door they went to get Catherine’s supplies.
Are you like Catherine? Do you sometimes get your priorities mixed up too, like when it comes to God. Do you get caught up in Life
and forget that God is your first priority?
Well I have to admit, it’s easy to be like Catherine. Life throws a lot of curves our way and it’s easy to get off track. But the good news is, We Can Fix That!
but we can’t put it off, otherwise, we might find ourselves like Catherine, Not Prepared , and when God calls us home, it just might be Too Late.
