“Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth”. (Matthew 13:47-50)
Somehow, I don't think I've noticed this one too terribly often.
While I am an ethnic mutt, some of my more recent ancestry is Scottish (19th Century, Scotland to Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia to Illinois), and I have bad teeth, I like to joke that it's “British teeth” (yes, I know that's a stereotype, but, you know, it's also a bit of self deprecation). And, before a Scottish Nationalist comes at me about the usage of the word “Brittish”, the word itself is, one, celtic in origina and, two, most of Scotland is on what Island? Great Britain)
But, anyway, I don't have the greatest teeth. Someone else that also had British teeth, is the late C.S. Lewis (who was Irish, if he was still alive, he'd be very confused why you'd think he was British, as he pretty consistently referred to himself as Irish), who was of Welsh descent, also had British teeth. You can read about that, here; C.S. Lewis, Dentistry & Bones.
But, I always thought that it was an apt comparison to compare damnation to “gnashing of teeth”, because, the be quite honest with you, teeth pain is probably about the worst pain I can think of.
Now, obviously, the preceeding verses are about the just and the wicked.
Since it literally says that.
But, who will you be? Will you be the good catch or the bad catch?
