Is God so unimaginative?

I used to live in a neighborhood where two streets formed a circuit around perhaps 100 homes. This set up made it easy for people to park at the entrance to the neighborhood, walk around the encircling streets stopping at every house, and ending right back where you parked.
This made our neighborhood very popular for children on Halloween, candidates running for public office, and door-to-door evangelists.
One day, a pair of Mormon evangelists stopped by. They started with their standard questions, most of which I'd heard before, and had some reasonably well thought out answers for. At the end, they asked me if I had any questions about their faith.
I momentarily hesitated. A question popped into my mind, but chose to ignore it. I told them "No, thank you. I hope to meet you again in heaven someday!" (Unchristianly thinking to myself, "perhaps not before then, too.")
Immediately after closing the door, I wished I had asked them the question that had popped into my mind during my momentary hesitation: "Why do you think God is asking you to consider the Catholic faith?"
I'm sure they have a prepared answer for that. In my mind, though, I relish the thought that they wouldn't have. In my pride, here's how I imagine the conversation going:
"Why do you think God is asking you to consider the Catholic faith?" The braver me would have asked.
"Why do you think he is?" They might reply.
"Well, you're out here on a mission to bring people to God, right?"
"Yes."
"You're prayed before starting today, asking God to guide you as you take your steps on this mission."
"Yes."
"You followed God's guidance as you came to this neighborhood, and specifically my door, hoping for a conversion, yes?"
"Well, we certainly tried to! And we want conversions!" My thoughts tell me they would respond.
"Well, then God led you to me, today, right now. Yes?"
"Seems so..." Perhaps with a little trepidation.
"Wanting a conversion, yes?"
"Yes..."
"Well, God knows I'm not going to convert to your faith, so, ...why do you think God is asking you to consider mine?"
As I said, I wasn't brave enough to ask this of them while they were at my door. And as I said, I don't sincerely believe that they would respond the way I imagined and wrote above.
But, I wanted to write it down anyway. Perhaps you're Catholic, and could be braver than I during one of these chance encounters. (We've since moved, so it's less likely we will have anyone stop door-to-door.)
Perhaps you're not Catholic and reading this post. Why are you? Somehow, it made its way to you. Perhaps a friend liked it. Maybe a friend of a friend shared it. It might have showed up on your "suggested viewings" or it just randomly turned up in your search. Maybe you just happened upon This website and started reading.
No matter how this article got to you, it does raise the question: Why is God asking you to consider the Catholic faith?
