NEGOTIATING HELL: a sequel to CS Lewis' "Screwtape Letters." Ch 23-Gluttony
Prioritizing God, kin and country as our plan;
we binge on news, "science" and the Hollywood man.
We listen to demons, the ultimate liars
and fall into sin, from chasing desires.
Blue screens and crowds leave us empty and dry
we wonder, blame others, act mystified.
Our soul lies putrid and dying, all covered in rust
from serving dark masters; pride, gluttony and lust.
We covet fame, power, more money and love
but forget about God's healing glory above.
Pride in our worth is our top, foremost care,
yet putting man first, brings us only despair.
Man pleasing man, idolizing humanity
we trade away grace for hatred and slavery.
A life of bad choices yields shame, guilt and pain
the sacraments forgotten again and again.
Our worth seems defined by human perception.
These borders are satan's biggest deception.
While those seeking God in all things, first
finds only HE, quenches our thirst.
Trust in no man, especially the self
as only in God, dwells our one truest wealth.
So we can be His, God came to be man
Forgiveness awaits, in the greatest
I AM.
