A SACRIFICE VERSUS AN OFFERING TO CHRIST
What does the Catholic Church believe about In Vitro Fertilization?
By: Eileen Renders
According to the Catholic Church, as stated in the Catholic Catechism, it is not an acceptable method for having children. The Catholic Church contends that children are to be brought into the world through the love and intimacy of their union. If this does not happen, couples should accept that it is not God’s will, and perhaps adopt a child. Although I do agree it is not ethical for a married woman fully receptive to receiving a donor’s sperm to proceed into IVO because this is a child born to a spouse and a stranger, and does not have the woman’s spouse, her husband, as the true father. In such cases of IVO, I believe adoption may be the best option.
When a husband and wife are unable to conceive naturally has not worked for them and their love and desire to have a child remains strong, they should be allowed to receive medical assistance when all else fails. When a husband and wife love one another and are committed in agreement to have children, I do not believe IVO should be “not considered acceptable” by the church.
Why do I disagree with the Catholic Church on this matter? For several reasons as follows,
1. God forgave Mary Magdalene, a prostitute
2. God forgave the sinner on the Cross beside Him, a thief, telling him before this day is over, you will be with Me in heaven.
3. God forgave the Apostle Thomas for doubting Him.
4. God forgave Judas for turning Him over to the Romanas for 30 silver pieces.
5. God never said in the Catholic Bible that children could only be created through marriage and love and intimacy reserved only for them.
6. What about a woman who becomes pregnant through rape? How should she handle that?
7. Priests forgive abortion
8. The Catholic Church once condemned Cremation, yet today it is accepted
9. If a couple has IVO to have a child, does God withhold forgiveness?
10. God is all love, mercy, and forgiveness, and I believe this Church law will also one day be reversed, as long as a “Sperm donor” is not utilized.
