On Peter's mother-in-law
Before we get started, please check out my latest on Locals, this is HUGELY relevant to the article; Coffee and Christianity: Episode 88: Yes the New Testament says Jesus is God, my previous article, Those that have eyes, but don't see, those that have ears, but don't hear
There are many things that annoy me. Loud noises, hyper children, people who pronounce either with a long “i” sound instead of a long “e” sound, people who mispronounce my last name (short o, y'all). But, one of the things I have been dealing with for a while is how to evangelize Muslims. I started an article about it (I usually, but not always, write things down), and I think I have dealt with Non-trinitarians in general. But, Muslims are a tough nut to crack.
They will claim, many of them, that the New Testament, and Jesus in particular predicts the coming of Mohamed. No, it doesn't. They will say that he's the “advocate”, umm, about that, John 14:26.
So, wait a minute, he's the advocate, even though the gospels say the Holy Spirit is the advocate?
Umm, okay.
But, the broader point I want to get at is this, Jesus is Lord.
I know some Muslims think Paul made Jesus divine (yet will say that Mohamed is the advocate, and John also portrays Jesus as divine, so, I don't know either), but, the fact of the matter is, is that even Roman pagans knew that Christians worshiped Jesus as God, Looking for the Historical Jesus—Again
I'm going to go ahead and type the Bible verses than I know Muslims are going to deny. But, Paul saw the risen Lord, Mohamed did not. And while there are some Protestants that will deny the words of Jesus apply to us (spoiler, they do), and try to pit Paul against Jesus (that would require a misreading of both the gospels and the Pauline epistles...they agree with each other), I know some Muslims are going to dismiss anything that they think even suggests that early Christians thought Jesus was God.
Which is why I mentioned non-Christians who didn't think that, but knew that Christians did. As for me,
“Have this mind among yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knew should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. (Philippians 2:5-11)
Oh, and if y'all want it in Greek, Philippians 2:5-11.
