Someone I Love Was Never Born

I was changing my daughter’s diaper the other day, always a joyous occasion. As I finished and went to prepare her bottle I started thinking. She doesnt really know whats being done, what’s going on, or all the ‘behind the scenes’ things her mother and I do for her. The very basic sustenance she receives is beyond her knowledge or control.
I began to wonder and think that its just the same with us and God. From the very air that we breathe, to our everyday lives. From the food provided through nature, to the sun coming up and the moon shining at night. Through the knowledge and gifts and abilities He’s given us, I really believe there’s a part of God in us all. From all the buildings and roads we see, all the collective advances, the gifts of talent and entertainment.
The simplicity of having words to speak and thoughts to express. We don’t tell our hearts to beat or our lungs to breathe. There’s something greater at play, something we may not even notice or ever acknowledge. Something that’s beyond us. Someone who cares so much that He does things that are beyond our capacity and imagination.
All out of love. Just like from me to my daughter. It’s a natural order I guess, there’s no second thoughts, you just do, you provide, you carry, you feed, you keep her safe, you do your best to sustain. And those are just the basics. You also play, you make her smile, you entertain. You try to make her experience as great as possible.
That’s what God does with us everyday. Whether we ever care to think about it or not. Just like those that every year we celebrate who put their lives on the line to protect us and the freedoms we enjoy. They also deserve much more than one day of acknowledgement and gratitude, just like God deserves much more than just a Sunday.
