Being a Catholic

The harshest person toward our sins is the person looking at us in the mirror. We regret the mistakes we make. We get mad at ourselves for committing the same sin over and over again. We think we need to clean up the mistake before we go back to Confession or to church. We think we are unworthy of sitting in the pews. We think we are not worthy of God’s love. However, all of these reasons are false. The only sins God does not forgive are the ones for which we do not ask his forgiveness.
We think we are unworthy of God’s forgiveness because we committed these horrible sins. At times, we are looking for answers, and we do it without God because we feel so unworthy. We think God thinks over the reasons why He created us and should take us out of this world, because our sins are so horrible. Since we have remorse, we think God also has remorse for creating us. We think God makes junk. We think all these things, and the sad part is none of it is true. God does not believe He made junk.
We forget that God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows exactly what sins we will commit and which sins we will struggle with on a daily basis. He knows some of us will fall into the sins of gluttony, pride, addictions and a host of other sins. God knows who and what will break our hearts. God knows the exact reason why He created us, and we need to trust that God knows.
Here’s what it boils down to: We are harder on ourselves than God will ever be. We think we are undeserving of God’s love, but the truth is we are never undeserving of God’s love, even when it is difficult to see why God would forgive us and truly love us. I always try to apply this quote from a priest:
“It is okay to be mad. God can be mad at us at times. However, it does not mean that God stops loving us. It means that God is just disappointed with our decision. We need to ask God for forgiveness, so He can forgive our sins.”
God is willing to give us the tools we need to be the person He intended. While we do not know the reasons, we do know we are created by God to emit love.
Our inner dialogue with ourselves is false. God is so happy He created us. He just wants us with Him at the end of the day. He does not care if we commit the same sin over and over again. He would prefer that we did not commit the sin, but it is not a condition for His love. The only condition that God has for us is that we trust in Him. He is ready to forgive us, and He is ready to give us everything He needs us to have.
