Breaking the Habit

It is too often that we are presented with situations that challenge our integrity. In a world with hatred, violence, and terrorism, the most common reaction to these issues are with violent retaliation. Many individuals retaliate with violence and try to fight fire with fire. It seems as if nearly everyone has forgotten what Jesus Christ has taught us to do: turn the other cheek.
By turning the other cheek, we simply chose not to react in a way that would cause the perpetrator suffering and pain. Instead, we remain peaceful throughout the entirety of the situation. Turning the other cheek also would be considered the more mature act to some people’s standards, and being the bigger person in the situation is what numerous individuals strive to be. If more people would turn the other cheek, there would be a decreased rate in crime and war.
Is the current state of the world the world that we want to raise children in? This is a world where cruel acts against others have become the norm, and the act of turning the other cheek is nearly obsolete. Let’s move towards a more peaceful world by obeying Christ’s teaching of turning the other cheek. The product of this movement would be undeniable beneficial to the future generations, and we owe it to them.
