What does The Bible mean to YOU?
I have a runny nose, and I think it may be a mix of seasonal allergies and pollution. While I think some environmentalist are ridiculous in their goals, they're not wrong about the fact that we do need to be able to breathe in clean air.
Anyway, so, with that said, I think we need to talk about Jesus as healer.
Before we get started, if you haven't, please read my previous article, here, That time I caught on fire in church
As Christians, it's so easy to put our own views on who Jesus is into The Bible when we read it.
Jesus is your Saviour, your God, and your Messiah. He is not, however a genie, a rich relative, or a self help guru.
But, one of those titles that I think we forget about Jesus is that he is the divine physician.
So, if I may borrow from Fr. Michael Van Slouen, Jesus: the Divine Physician, off course, all these things are true. But, let's just go ahead and use the verse he gave as an example, as he mentioned Lk 5:31
In fact, let's give a little bit more, I usually won't call it a Bible study unless I have at least three verses, in fact, I am going to give the context, so, let's start with verse verse 30,
“But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying to his disciples: Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus, answering, said to them; They that are whole need not the physician: but they that are sick. I came not to call the just, but sinners to penance”.
(Luke 5:30-32).
And that's just the thing, the Pharisees and the scribes WERE those who were sick. They were so quick to accuse Jesus, that they didn't realize that they themselves were sinners that need healing.
I know I need physically healing (I have a foot that probably needs surgery, but I am having a hard time raising funds. I don't know what Catholic 365's rules are on sharing that, so, you can find them on my socials).
But, more than that, I need spiritually healing. I need the love of Jesus. I need to come into his peace, and live in his grace.
And I'm willing to bet you need to do the same.
Understand, I am not saying you're a worse sinner that I am. What I AM saying, is we all need to walk with Christ.
