Mira Sorvino: Her SECOND Film Against Child Trafficking
The "Hillbilly Elegy" Guy
As recent as 2007, J.D. Vance identified as an atheist (cf, J.D. Vance, 4/1/2020). When Trump was first inaugurated in 2017, J.D. was a relatively unknown 32 year old, who would have been too young to serve as vice president! Here is what I wrote just seven years ago:
When I first heard the title [i.e, Hillbilly Elegy], I wondered if this was a pejorative work....the further I'd read, the less sure I was about where the author was taking us!
I guess this book is really just a memoir from a young man not long out of law school....
At this point in his life, the author struck me as overly impressed with the trappings of Ivy League education and wealth. Yet I am certain that he would agree that lots of fine people of great character and intelligence never set foot in such institutions. (Amazon review, 2/1/18)
At Least in Some Ways, J.D. May Have Agreed with Me
Since his book and the subsequent movie, J.D.'s rise to fame and power has been at a phenomenal speed!
I try to keep a little humility about how little I know, and how inadequate a Christian I really am. I am most comfortable engaging with people around ideas. If you can’t read something and debate it, I’ve always been a little less interested. But the Church isn’t just about ideas and Saint Augustine, whom I chose as my patron. It’s about the heart, as well, and the community of believers. It’s about going to Mass and receiving the Sacraments, even when it’s difficult or awkward to do so. It’s about so many things that I’m ignorant of, and the process of becoming less ignorant over time (J.D. Vance, 4/1/2020)
Let's take him at his word!
As per a 7/16/24 email from the Pillar,
....Vance said directly that he supports legal accessibility for mifepristone, an abortifacient pharmaceutical responsible for more than half the abortions in the U.S....
The GOP platform...seems to... deemphasize principled opposition to abortion, and...has dropped a man-woman definition of marriage....
