Is Faith a Merry-Go-Round?
Give Me A Sign, Lord…
Have you ever asked for a sign from the Lord? Sure, when we are perplexed and don’t know what to do. We call upon the Lord for help.
Gideon was a man who was willing to do exactly what God wanted him to do regardless of his own plans. But…he was weak. He doubted his own ability to be used by God. Go to Judges 6 in your Bible. Here, Gideon is selected by the Lord to defend the Israelites against the Midianites. Gideon trembled with fear. He couldn’t recognize his own potential. So what did he do? He asked God for a sign, then another sign, and still another. He tested the Lord by pushing him with more requests to overcome his insecurity and fear. And when God answered him, he asked for even more signs, pushing the patience of the. Yet, the Lord does not rebuke him. God chose a weak, fearful man to win the battle against the Midianites. Gideon couldn’t see himself the way God saw him.
What would we do if the Lord called upon us? Just as Gideon did. Keep asking for signs, testing God. We pray and don’t expect an answer. Just as Gideon couldn’t see himself as God saw him, so, too, we do not see ourselves as God sees us. We do not see the potential God has given us. We respond with fear like Gideon did. We, resist God’s answers as Gideon did. More signs, he cried. He tested God. God answered Him. What happened? Gideon won the battle against the Midianites!
”Fear not!” Is the most repeated command in the Bible. You can read one for every day of the year. When we pray, believe!
