Stories and Fame

We have all read the story millions of times. We will hear the same story on Holy Thursday. It is a story that we all partake in every time we go to Mass and receive the Eucharist. Yet, do we know the real meaning behind the Eucharist? Do we know what God is truly telling us? The real meaning behind takes, blesses, breaks, and gives is deeper than Jesus at the Last Supper. God is powerful, and He tells us that we need to be hungry for Him. At the Last Supper, Jesus takes the bread. He blesses the bread. Then, the bread is broken. Finally, each disciple takes a piece of bread. We see this happen every time we go to Mass. Yet, the Eucharist goes deeper. Christ goes deeper.
Every day, God tries to draw us away from the way the world operates. God wants us to find ways to be more like Christ to each person we meet. Every chance we have, we need to allow God in. We need to allow Christ to make sure we treat everyone the way He would.
God blesses us every day. From the time we wake up in the morning to the time we rest each day, God gives us millions of reasons to thank Him. God has so much He wants to say to us, but we are not listening to His voice. We get busy thinking that we do not need God, so He throws things at us to make us aware that we should thank Him. Although we are humans and think we can do everything without God, the truth is God needs to be with us every moment of every day, and we need to learn to appreciate and depend on God for what we need.
God breaks us every day. Every little suffering is God’s way of telling us to hold up. We are dependent on God. We can break and say we do not need God. However, we do. We need to understand that God wants us to need Him. God wants us to drop our sufferings at the foot of the cross. God wants us to look in the mirror and say, “God please help me through this situation.” God is about breaking us down. By breaking us down, God is telling us that we cannot do this
without others. We have to depend on Him. We have to suffer and come completely full circle in order to understand the reason why God created us to live on this Earth.
Finally, God gives us the ability to serve each other through compassion. In order to be any use to others, we need to be broken. This is what God calls giving of yourself to others. We cannot give others our best when we are broken, but we cannot give to others before we are broken ourselves. We cannot help others until we have experienced heartache. We need to have that heartache to respect and empathize with others who are in the midst of suffering.
God gave us the sacred sacrament of the Eucharist to teach us to understand what it means to take, bless, break, and give. Every time we meditate on what defines those four words, we learn the importance of what it truly means to give of ourselves.
