The Importance Of Community

Recently we recognized the birthday of the great Dr. Seuss. And one of my favorite quotes from him says, “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!”
We are all unique. God wanted it that way, and thank goodness, because our world would be so boring if we were all the same. But there is another importance that comes with that saying.
We are who we are. We are not others’ opinion of us. We are God’s daughter. We are God’s son. Yes, we were made with quirks, and flaws. But we should not be defined by those. We should be defined by good things. We are good. We have gifts. We have talents. We have special things that no one else has. And we know ourselves better than others do. We know how our mind works, what is dear to our hearts, our preferences, our likes and dislikes.
We could easily go through a magazine of famous people, or models, and choose to define ourselves that way. But why bother? We need to stand up for ourselves and be proud of who God made us, and love ourselves just the way we are. We need to accept ourselves, and realize that being unique is a gift. We need to look at the good we have, and not be defined by the day. Be you. Be God’s image, and beautiful creation.
