Rediscover Jesus Day 2

Today’s reflection is about monitoring want we see.
How can we monitor what we see as images appear rapidly and without warning?
As I sit here writing, this scripture verses comes to mind, you know the one:
And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell. [Matthew 18:9]
Wow the visual imagery in this one, leaves no room for misinterpretation! Have we become immune to the images that we see that we don’t even give it another thought?
I mean, have you seen the Victoria Secret commercials? I am embarrassed by them, especially when my sons are in the room.
It makes us uncomfortable to see young girls in underwear, poising seductively, producing all types of impure thoughts in a millisecond. By the time you reach for the remote, the damage has been done. Once you’ve seen something you can’t unsee it.
Or the commercials for various TV shows, like the graphic murders of Criminal Minds. I wonder why they give so much information about how to commit the murders in that 30m sec blurb, it’s like a mini course in evil. Again before you can change it, you’ve seen it.
Our eyes are the windows of our souls.
What we see affects us to the very core of our being even if we do not realize it at the time. It changes who we are, eroding our moral fiber, causing us to be led into temptation a little at a time.
We wonder why there is an increase in violence?!!!! Look at our TV programs and our children’s video games, it’s really not rocket science!
Perhaps it has just become the norm that we don’t even question what we see and why we should not see it.
Isn’t that satan’s way to erode our senses a little at a time so that by the time we are in hell, we will not even realize it.
And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell. [Matthew 18:9]
Something to ponder, that’s for sure!
