Homilies Not Horoscopes

Recently, we recognized the anniversary of Roe vs Wade. While there were some that rejoiced in this legal decision, many of us attended Holy Hours for Life, marched for the unborn and made acts of reparation.
That same calendar week, locally, a canine officer was killed in the line of duty. Social and local news media outlets went crazy with tributes in honor of the dog. We heard updates on memorials and the status of the suspect accused of the murder. The honor flag arrived and a service was held in a local church.
I'm in no way suggesting that this dog was not valuable. It is truly sad that he was killed, especially while in the duty of protecting our fine men and women in blue. I respect the dog and I respect our officers. Our officers live dangerously every day to keep the rest of us safe. They deserve our respect and honor. Likewise, that day I believe the dog died a hero...saving human life.
Having said that, my heart is heavy. For there is much honor and attention given to this canine. Yet, daily in our society, thousands of humans are killed violently in the womb in the act of abortion. Humans. And it is considered a 'right' by many.
What becomes of these tiny, innocent bodies? How are they honored? Where is their memorial? (Are they parted out for study or discarded like trash? flushed down the sewer?) Have we become so callous in this holocaust that we forget to honor and respect the remains of these innocents? Have we forgotten that each had value...each little body with a SOUL?
As we ponder this, please join me in endless prayers of memorial....honoring these little lives.....as well as prayers for serious reparation.
