Receive The Holy Spirit

Today’s reflection is on the great commandment. Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
That is really the question of today’s time, of all time really, because how you love yourself determines how you will love others.
So How? Do you love yourself?
In yesterday’s reflection, Jesus teaches us to dig deep and get to the root of issues and ourselves. To know ourselves as He already knows us.
We sometimes forget that little tenet, you know the one, Essence before Existence. The one that teaches us that we were in the Heart and Mind of God BEFORE the heavens were put into place.
Our Lordknowsus, has known us since before the Heavens were put into place. We know him too as we have been with him for a very long time. But something happens when we are knit in our mother’s womb….the stain of original sin. It causes us to be tempted as Eve was tempted and the consequence is that we have to strive to hear Our Lords voice.
This Commandment is a simple but profound Divine Directive. Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
As I am sitting here it occurs to me that it is sometimes it is easier to love our neighbor than ourselves. Do you find that too?
I mean, take someone close to you, they have made a mistake, they are upset about the choices they have made and are beating themselves up about it. We look at them and “see” all the nuances that they cannot see and we do not see them as they see themselves: As the worst human being on earth worthy of all that should befall them because they are not perfect.
Think about it a moment….have you ever loved yourself that badly, that you believe you are unlovable?
It is time we REALLY start thinking about the spiritual nature of all these things. As Jesus knows we are going to be tempted, He was tempted.
Being human, we are more susceptible to the lies the devil whispers to us. The devil seeks out our flaws, imperfections and weaknesses and exploits them to keep us from not only knowing God but ourselves as well.
When we succumb to his lies, we give him power. The more power we give him the less we love ourselves.
The less we love ourselves, the easier it is not to delve deep or believe in God. When we no longer believe in God, we begin to see only ugliness in the world.
The more we see ugliness in the world, the more hopeless we become. The more hopeless we become, the less likely we will hear Our Lord’s voice calling to us.
The less we hear the Lord’s voice the easier it is to deny Him altogether. When we deny Him altogether there is no need for love in the world.
No love in the world, satan has won.
Start today to learn how to love yourself better so that you can be the LIGHT you were meant to be.
