Love properly understood is the most beautiful thing.
When you are preparing for a beloved guest, you prepare by making sure you have a clean home for them. And no details are overlooked. Everything you clean, you do so for your guest. And we are in the middle of Advent. We are preparing for Jesus. We are not preparing a crib for baby Jesus, but we are preparing our hearts. Jesus wants to dwell there.
Stop for a moment. Jesus wants to dwell in your heart. You are not beneath God’s love. If He thought you unlovable, you would no longer exist. You exist merely for God to love you AND for you to love God. Jesus is the only one that can fulfill the desires in your heart. “There is a God-shaped hole in your heart that only Jesus can fill.” St Augustine
Now is the time to clean our hearts. Do not look past those details we wish to cover-up. God knows it is there and desires to cleanse you. You are completely lovable, even with your greatest sins. However, you have to choose between your greatest sins and God. It should be an easy decision, but many find comfort in their sins thinking they are unlovable.
Unlovable?!? Look again at the Cross! Jesus did not die for comfort. He did not die to be nice. He died a torturous death to show us the extent of His Love. If there was a greater suffering, He surely would have endured it just to so us the inexhaustible love He has for you. Unlovable?!? Who told you that, the Devil? The Liar?
Mary, as our mother, help us to clean our hearts so that they can be the most pleasing to your Son. Indeed, make our hearts resemble your Immaculate Heart so that when Jesus comes to us, He sees a heart like yours willing to go to all extents to love You in return. Amen.
