A Mystery Ever New
The Catholic Church is the owner and protector of many things of beauty. Our liturgy is beautiful, a wonderful mix of scripture, structure, Praise and Worship, and prayer. The Church has been criticized for this "protection" it provides. I've heard people say about, "Oh the church is rich, why don't they sell the art and give to the poor? etc. etc. The Church has money, why should we give to it?"
These are the ramblings of people who don't understand, nor care about the integral part Art plays in both the life of the Church and in the individual. Bishop Robert Barron gives an art appreciation lesson in this speech at the Good News Conference. In his often humourous manner, he teaches about Art and beauty itself.
