Where Have All Our Catholic Men Gone?
Bob Dylan said: “You can't be wise and in love at the same time.”
I say: “You can't be a country that hates, if you're country that prays.”
As I traveled through Arkansas on my way to New Orleans, an aggressive "non-believer" called me out on my declaration.
The woman said, “That's ridiculous!”
I asked why. Having no experience with prayer, she didn't have much of an answer.
So I said, “Why not try it? Afterall, you tell me you want change. You want people to be more compassionate, empathetic, kind and generous.”
She stared at me. I stared back. Uncomfortable now, one of the men at the table tried to change the subject.
I said, “The secular worldview is always late to the party. You want what you want without doing the work.” She released a hmmm, through her pursed lips.
I continued “...A country at prayer is a country at peace.”
She said, finally, “Let's agree to disagree.”
I shook my head. The men at the table chuckled nervously and looked away.
I often hear people lament over God allowing bad things to happen to good people. I have had many bad things happen to me. I know that these challenges have humbled me and caused me to turn back towards God, repeatedly. I pray, unceasingly. Won't you too?
