Today’s media loves to fill our youths’ minds with the fictional stories of superheroes. These characters always have a supernatural power or ability that inspires kids and adults. We rush to the theaters to watch them fight terrible villains and “save the world”. Meanwhile, thousands of brave souls have shown true heroism against the attacks of real evil. As Catholics, we call these individuals saints. Most of them gave their lives in devastating fashion to defend the truths of Jesus Christ and His Church. Why do we ignore these courageous men and women, and instead follow fabricated “heroes” created by Disney and other producing studios? The answer is pretty clear actually. The media doesn’t want us to be inspired by the authentic heroes because they are afraid that people will realize the amazing truths of Our Lord and Savior and His followers. I believe that our job as faithful Christians is to levitate the faithful servants of Christ, who have risked everything to spread our beautiful religion. This is not to say that we can’t appreciate a Disney hero film every once in a while, but I firmly believe that a better way to fill that time is to read a book about St. Joan of Arc.
