“Wood of the cradle, wood of the cross, bearing a lifetime of joy and of loss, who is your loved one? Who could he be, born in a manger to die on a tree?” ~ words by songwriter, Francis Patrick O'Brien
There was wood of a cradle and of a cross.
One bringing joy, the other loss.
There was a journey to Bethlehem, the house of bread,
And the cruel trek to Calvary, a crown of thorns upon His head.
Angels proclaimed to shepherds and sheep,
And to Mary at the tomb while others’ hearts were asleep.
A Mother holding her son, one little, one grown,
He learned, worked and obeyed. The choice was His own.
Where there was joy, there was sorrow for the suffering to come.
Their hearts swelled and pierced, sweet then numb.
But that is why Jesus came, as God made man,
To die for us sinners, it was all part of His divine plan.
For we cannot live unless He, our Lord dies,
And then the holy souls with Him shall rise
To heaven’s gates. Saint Peter shall open the door,
And when we arrive, we can praise Him all the more.
Forever and ever our hearts shall sing,
All glory, laud and honor eternally given to Christ our sovereign King!
