Does the Bible allow females to be priests? The short and correct answer is no, but here is why:
The Priesthood has been established since Genesis by God.
Genesis 14:17-20
“When Abram returned from his defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were allied with him, the king of Sodom went out to greet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine. He was a priest of God Most High. He blessed Abram with these words “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.”
During this verse we see the first glance of the priesthood in the Old Testament, to add more, we know that the Patriarch of the chosen people was a male too, I am talking about Enoch, the grandfather of Noah (Rf. Genesis 5:18,22 and St Jude 1:14).
Numbers 3:10-12
“To Aaron and to his sons, to whom they are delivered by the children of Israel. But thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons over the service of the priesthood. The stranger that approached to minister shall be put to death. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: I have taken the Levites from the children of Israel, for every firstborn that opened the womb among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.”
We clearly see that God was talking to Moses, and God himself chose Aaron (another male), and Aaron’s sons (males) to become the priests for the chosen people of the world (The Israelis). If God intended females to be part of the priesthood, he would have chosen Aaron’s wife, daughter, and aunts, but he did not. God is clear that priesthood is for men.
St John 20:21-22
“He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost.”
Jesus chose twelve apostles, all of them were men. Not a single woman was chosen among the world to be an Apostle of Jesus. After Jesus Ascension to the heavens, we see that the Apostles chose Matthias to be the new Apostle after the death of Judas (Rf. Acts 1:12-26), furthermore, the other Apostles that were chosen were men as well (Barnabas, Paul, Papias, Polycarp, Ignatius of Antioch).
Hebrews 5:9-10
"When he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him, and God declared him to be high priest, in the priestly order of Melchizedek."
Hebrews 7:1
"This Melchizedek was king of Salem and a priest of the highest God. As Abraham was coming back from the battle in which he defeated the four kings, Melchizedek met him and blessed him."
Paul tells us more about priesthood and it clearly shows that priesthood is for men only, showing that God intended that priesthood was a gift from heaven given to men. Although Jewish traditions didn’t welcome priestess, the Gentiles (Romans, Greeks, etc) didn’t have a problem with priestesses, yet the Apostles kept choosing a man, not a woman, as we see with Timothy. If God didn’t intend for females to be pastors, then surely you should remember that we are here to please God, not to please ourselves.
