Christmas Gift of Mercy

Recently I discussed four new TV series that Christians should avoid. Today I present two additional problem shows for your discretion. (Note, I do include a 'spoiler' in my comments regarding SUPERSTORE):
First, SUPERSTORE, a new NBC comedy. Apparently in one episode they joke about abortion. The dismemberment and murder of human life is not a joking matter. Granted, the pregnant character opts to give life to the baby (sorry for the spoiler).....so that's a plus for the episode. However, the fact that they still try to make a comedy out of the entire issue of abortion is obviously not quality entertainment.
Second, ELEMENTARY on CBS. This show in the past has had it's share of implied adult situations. Last fall it went above and beyond with three immoral topics in one episode. First, it implied that marriages consisting of MULTIPLE (more than two) spouses was not only acceptable but quite common. Second, it referred to pro-lifers in negative ways implying that they were annoying and dangerous. And finally, it gave the misleading impression that embryonic stem cell research actually has medical merit (which it doesn't.....just ask the scientist who first discovered it).
We all live hectic lives with busy schedules. There never seems to be enough time to do everything we want to do. Life is too short and too precious to waste on TV programming that is harmful to our moral well being. If we want to relax, we need to find programming that aligns with our faith....not that which degrades or mocks it.
Better yet, flip off the TV and find an engaging book on the faith. In this year of mercy we would do well to review the various works of mercy and/or read up on Divine Mercy. Hollywood is not a valid source for teaching us how to lead moral lives. Also, pray for the producers, writers, actors and sponsors of trash TV so that they might have a conversion of mind and heart. Do acts of reparation for this misleading and harmful entertainment. And finally, be informed on why these shows are so offensive. No doubt they are being viewed by your coworkers, extended family, neighbors, etc. When you find yourself in a gathering discussing TV programming try to recommend options that are soul-friendly. Hollywood is great at subtle (and not-so-subtle) brainwashing. Let us all be beacons of light to those that are being misled.
