Baptismal Obligations-Part III
It has been a few weeks since I last wrote here. About three months ago, I was asked by a fellow parishoner to provide transportation to mass. I said yes. In doing so, I unconciously opened another path to God's mercy. The simple once a week commitment has, through that one act, turned into a life line for the parishoner. I have, ultimately become a confidant, a shoulder to lean on, and a go to person to help her meet her needs.
You may say, so what, but for me, it has been revelation expressing God's mercy and love. It has helped me strengthen my desire to become a disciple of Christ by being open to what ever He asks. It has also helped me realize how thankful I am to our Lord for reminding me how grateful I am to Him, despite all of my issues in addressing the needs of my family. It has also helped me deepen my prayer life.
Our Lord only asks what you can give, since he knows what we can accomplish, better than we do. When asked how I deal with all my issues, I have told many people, the Lord only gives us tasks that we can handle.
You may ask what issues I have. I do not mind sharing. Mental illness in my son, physical diabilities for my wife limiting her mobility and cancer, 50% vision loss, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and partial hearing loss for me, just to name a few. A full plate? Maybe. But the love I receive from our Lord and my family sustains me through out and allows me to share that love with those I meet.
So engaging in corporal works of mercy has helped me grow in my faith, assist another with her faith issues and her physical needs, help my family manage their issues, deepen my prayer life and continually reinforce and grow the love I share with with our Lord and demonstrate that love to those I meet.
Becoming stewards of our faith by sharing our time, talent and treasure within our faith community and with the larger community we live in, we gladly promote the love of Christ to all, offering and delivering corporal works of mercy and share his Good News with all.,
Corporal works of mercy enable us to share the Word of God with whomever we meet through our time and our treasure trove of love.
