The Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) is the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s largest fundraising initiative benefiting close to one million people across the region. The CCA supports over 180 beneficiary organizations and programs across the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and is a recognized Catholic nonprofit 501c3. The beneficiaries of the Appeal focus on five key areas:
• Education
• Social Services
• Evangelization, Parish, and Spiritual Life
• Clergy
• Local Mission Activities
Having been on the CCA Board of Directors since 2021, I have seen the amazing work of the Appeal firsthand, it is a blessing to be a part of the mission of the Appeal helping so many families and individuals within the Philadelphia and Greater Philadelphia areas.
Just to give you a glimpse on how impactful the Appeal is, last year over 100 Catholic Social Services and Nutritional Development Services programs helped close to 640,00 people. Over 100 students in the Schools of Special Education within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia received tuition assistance and support. More than 3,900 pregnant clients were assisted. Retired priests who needed care were helped; and 121 found the support they needed. Eighteen Mission Parishes were revitalized and sustained supporting over 50,000 parishioners.
The Appeal truly changes lives, like Belinda who received support from Casa del Carmen. “I just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Martilda. During my pregnancy, I started to feel like I could not do this on my own. When I started to look at the prices of everything, I felt overwhelmed, and it made me emotional. A friend recommended I visit Casa del Carmen and I could not be more grateful. At Casa I received all the extra items I needed for my daughter: diapers, wipes, a pack and play, and clothing. I even participated in a car seat workshop and learned the proper safety instructions for transporting my child. Services like these are so beneficial to parents, and especially new moms like me. Through donations to the Catholic Charities Appeal, this work was made possible. Every dollar counts and makes a difference.”
