Saint André Bessette, also known as Brother André, was a Catholic brother and saint born on August 9th, 1845, in Saint-Grégoire d'Iberville, Quebec, Canada. He is the patron saint of physical illnesses and those suffering from hardships, and is widely known for his devotion to Saint Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus.
Saint André's life was marked by many hardships, including the loss of his parents at a young age and working as a manual laborer for most of his life. Despite these difficulties, he was known for his deep faith and compassion for those in need.
One of the most interesting facts about Saint André was his reputation for healing the sick. People from all over Canada and the United States would come to seek his blessings and many claimed to have been miraculously cured. This led to the construction of Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal, which has become one of the largest pilgrimage sites in the world dedicated to Saint Joseph.
Saint André was canonized by the Catholic Church on October 17th, 2010, and his feast day is celebrated on January 6. He passed away on January 6th, 1937, at the age of 91, and was buried at Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal.
