Is Knowledge really Power?

My six-year-old grandson is star struck with super heroes. He is extremely knowledgeable on Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Spiderman and the Avengers to name a few.
That has me thinking – just what is a SUPER HERO?
I understand that these characters are the good guys and they have super powers in order to defeat the bad. But, what are we teaching our children about defeating evil when it seems you have to have super human strength or powers and be able to beat up or destroy with a wide grin on your face?
It seems to me that more and more, the lessons of Jesus Christ are being ignored and forgotten. They are sadly not being passed on to the younger generations.
Hey kids; JESUS is our ultimate SUPER HERO! He defeated the ultimate bad guy – Satan! Our Savior came into this world to preach Love and Forgiveness. He was pure Goodness and Love and how did mankind respond? Jesus was mocked, beaten, tortured, and murdered. Jesus could have stopped this madness. He was God, after all. Instead, He offered Himself up for our sins and our salvation! His Sacrifice was a lesson in Redemptive Suffering and the power of Forgiveness. The CROSS became the ultimate symbol of LOVE!
Isaiah 53:5 “But, He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our inequities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”
Too often people are judgmental, selfish and proud. We look for the worst in others to make ourselves feel better. We choose to be divisive and disrespectful of all God’s children who are different than ourselves. The world has become a harsh and unloving world. The people who do choose to follow the true teachings of Jesus Christ are mocked, beaten, tortured and murdered. These followers are the new Super Heroes! They are standing up for their beliefs and their God. It is not the easy way. It takes super human willpower and faith in the Lord.
We are not alone. We have a host of Super Heroes - the Saints in Heaven. These Heroes have shown us the way and are waiting for our petitions of intercession. They are our special friends in Heaven. And let us not forget that Jesus gave us a Wonder Woman in His Blessed Mother, Mary. She is always there for us to show us the way to Her Son.
The world needs Super Heroes. Let’s teach our children and grandchildren to follow the ways of the Greatest Super Hero – OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST!
