I remember it as if it were yesterday....As a young 20-something mom of three, I was in the garage of our first house drying the car I had just washed while the kids were all napping. I had been introduced to christian radio by a neighbor. In the 1980's, there wasn't a lot of Catholic radio available and, of course, no podcasts or any of the other things to which we have become so accustomed.
A preacher was giving a lesson on the Book of Genesis. Specifically, the story of Adam, Eve and the Fall. As a cradle Catholic, I found this study fascinating. So much more detail spilled from my radio than I had ever heard before....and I was hooked. At one point he said..."...women are easily deceived..". What? In my twenties, that did not sit well with me. This preacher knew it would not sit well with most of the woman he was addressing with his teaching and continued to explain his conjecture. He said that there was a reason that the serpent went for the woman first and not for Adam. The woman was more likely to be plied through emotion....'..surely you will not die..' Then, Satan went right for the 'jugular' when he pointed out the one thing Adam and Eve didn't have at their disposal in the garden, never mind what they did have. The rest is history....Salvation History.
While I have to be honest here and say that I came around to this pastor's thinking -- it did NOT happen that day. But, the thought has never left me.
Fast forward to 2015 and the videos we have seen exposing the egregious workings of Planned Parenthood. America seems stunned and I quietly wonder what we thought was happening there? In real life, am the Director of a crisis pregnancy center. If you could hear the stories of some of the women who have come into our office after their experiences at Planned Parenthood....none of this would surprise you. It has been frustrating working with this issue from where I sit. Pictures of aborted babies are not 'allowed' because it's too gruesome. We can't stand to look at what we are doing, but we continue to support it through out tax dollars? The case against Gosnell (I refuse to call him 'Doctor') stirred the public a bit....then we seemed to think this was an isolated case. Move on. It is time we take a real look at what we are doing in this country. We are guaranteed three things in our nation's Declaration of Independence: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Well over one hundred million (if you include abortions done in home through medications such as RU-246) of our fellow citizens have been willfully denied their first unalienable right. I pray that this finally makes us take a hard look at what we have done and decide to protect the most vulnerable among us.
But what offends me the most, are the women that are intimately involved in this sickening destruction, selling and profiting of baby parts. Women! The hand that rocks the cradle, remember? Woman are selling. Women are buying. (The Founder and CEO of Stem Express---purchaser of much of the 'tissue' from Planned Parenthood as shown on the videos -- is a woman). I have yet to see a man involved in any of this. I'm sure there are men...it is just, we haven't seen them yet. What has made these women so cold and calculating in their chosen professions?
I submit that the serpent got to them as well. Easy prey for an enemy bent on the destruction of God's world. For the past 50 years we have been told over and over again that unless we could be 'just like men', we could amount to nothing. We must be able to 'control' our own bodies no matter the cost. While all along, women were endowed with an ability that men would never have. The ability to conceive and bare children and to 'raise them up in fear and admonition of the Lord'. To be caregivers; not only to our families, but to the hurting world around us.
Now, what we see every day in the news or online, is the utter lack of kindness, humility, nurturing and love in our world. The very traits that God gave us women in abundance, but we rejected. We wanted that other fruit, that other important place that was out there somewhere. Let's pray it is not too late. This insatiable appetite for control on the part of humanity--and especially modern day humanity--must be channeled to a positive end.
Please pray with me that these women own up to this heinous betrayal and come to fully understand that God's mercy covers this sin as well as any other. They only need to seek it out. May they find peace in His mercy -- before it is too late.
