On The Anointing of the Sick

Does God really provide?
Have you ever wondered if Christ really provides everything He promises? I know I have. But recently I ran across a verse in scripture that spoke to me:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own,” (Matthew 6:25-34).
As I read through this verse I thought, that’s one big promise! Basically, Christ promises to provide food, water and clothes. How is it possible that God worries about these seemingly small things in my life? Does he truly provide them? Well I figured out that He provides them so long as we have the faith to believe that He does. If we sit in unbelief doubting that He provides obviously we won’t believe in His promises. But if we choose to believe then it’s true that God provides everything we need in a day.
If we take this a step further God also provides everything else in our lives:
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:19).
This takes more faith, because our needs may be great and vary from person to person. In my case I needed a miracle and God provided because I had the faith to believe that He would. However, there it is important to note that God provides in His own way that sometimes doesn’t make sense to us. And sometimes the provision is delayed in His timing. These factors can be difficult to accept and understand at times, but as long as we hold on to the fact that God loves and cares for us we are comforted in His will.
So is it true that God really provides? Only the faith in our hearts can confirm or deny this. I believe that our God is faithful and therefore believe, but I can easily understand how doubt might get in the way of this type of provision. Our Catechism of the Catholic Church states that God is faithful:
“In God "there is no variation or shadow due to change. “God is "HE WHO IS", from everlasting to everlasting, and as such remains ever faithful to himself and to his promises,” (CCC 212).
In other words, if you don’t believe that God can be faithful to you then rest assured that He never changes and is faithful to His own word.
