Being Possessed with Christ

We all have those dark moments when the grief seems impossible. It is the huge boulder sitting on our shoulders. It is the falling into the well. It is not knowing where to turn to at our darkest moments. In those moments of grief, God seems so far away. We feel like we are grieving alone. No one can possible understand what we are going through. The only thing that finds us comfort is the sense of peace. Yet, peace seems so unattainable.
However, there are times when even peace seems like a roller coaster. When we think that the peace is permanent, another thundering wave of grief overcomes us. It seems as grief is only getting stronger and somehow, in a strange way, God is yet punishing us again! When are grief is strong, we are always thinking of the moment of Jesus on the cross stating, “My God, My God why has thou forsaken me?” This Bible verse is suppose to bring us comfort. It brings Jesus’ human characteristics out and in some way we know God is not forsaking us.
The cross is Jesus’ way of saying that we are connected to Him and God. It is Jesus’ way of saying, "I do understand the pain that you are going through. I understand your suffering, and this dark moment too shall pass. I hear you crying out in desperation and yet, while you are crying out in desperation, I am right here holding you through the darkness."
We are all trying to make sense of all the pain and suffering, but we will never fully understand the depth of why we need to suffer. The hardest part of suffering and grieving is knowing that the crushing blow does not come right away, but years or months after the situation. Somehow, we are great at digging a hole and throwing the emotions deep into the hole. We need to work through the process of grieving and suffering. We need to allow the pain to consume us. But more importantly, we need to continue to believe that God will continue to carry us through these dark hours. Somehow, we will find that happiness again. We will find the strength to go on, and God will be right there leading the way!
