Tips for being a great confirmation sponsor

When I visited the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, I stood outside taking pictures before Mass on Saturday evening. I heard runners approaching from my right and looked up to make sure I wasn't in their way. I saw a crowd of shiny green uniforms running towards me. I had heard that the US Women's soccer team was playing the Mexico Women's soccer team, and I smiled as I realized that I was catching a glimpse of the celebrities. I humbly watched as trainers, coaches, and players stopped and genuflected in front of the Cathedral.
From a full on run to a respectful kneel, they stopped and acknowledged Who they were passing.
I thought about the days I drop off and pick up the kids at church - for choir or youth group. Do I acknowledge Who I am driving by? Nope. Most days, I'm busy fussing at someone about something.
From now on, I will think of my Savior. I will think of Who I am driving by when I pull in and out of the parking lot, doing taxi duty.
I will take the time to genuflect and whisper thank you to the runners who reminded me.
¡Viva Cristo Rey!
