Measuring Up

If you knew that you had a terminal illness, one that didn't have a cure, and that could not get better, and you knew that you had only so much time before you left this world to spend eternity with God, what would you do? Would you chose to make the most of your time? Would you do things that you have not yet accomplished? Would you forgive those who you have not yet forgiven? Would you say what needs to be said to those you need to say things to?
That lesson; making the best out of a limited amount of time is one that I learned from my Grandpa before he left this world 10 days ago. He knew that he had only so much time, and he made the best of that time. He said things to people that needed to be said. He lived his limited amount of time with faith and courage. He made us all see the goodness of God.
Sure, there is another choice that people in this situation could chose. They could give up. They could remain bitter, angry, or forget about what and who is important. But why? God has given us one life; one life to love, one life to serve, one life to touch others, and impact others, one life to make a difference, one life to fight the good fight, and one life to grow. We don't get two lives to show others what God's love is. We don't get two lives to lead others to God. We don't get two lives to prepare for the day when we get to hear, "Welll done my good and faithful servant." We only get one. And it's up to us to chose to make the most of it. It's up to us to have faith, and to live each day that God has given to us to the fullest.
