Prayer is a wonderful gift bestowed on mankind by which we reach the heart of God. It is a sweet tidings by which Heaven prepares graces for men, and man raises himself in communication with the Supreme Being. The beauty plays out across all cultures, languages and creed, and it has revealed the commonality by which our hearts and souls yearn to reach out to what is more than us. It is therefore essential to know how to pray, how to elevate our minds to God
In prayer, we should be simple. It's important that we, like children, commune with our Father in simple words and gestures, not bundled up in ways that we do not understand ourselves. God understands us and He wants us to approach Him in the simplicity of our hearts. It does not require any force of the world to ask the eyes of the Divine. Likewise, does it require seductive, tempting and empty phrases. Be simple.
It's important for a man of prayer, to be filled with confidence. An extent of despair should not thrust one's heart in a hollow, such that hope and faith are missing. Christians, are people of hope, people of confidence in the One who has made us. Irrespective of what weight we bear, God knows it all and He can bear it all. He bore the Cross, remember.
A sense of self surrender and humility is essential for a man of prayer. We should not, like the Pharisee, pray as though we congratulate ourselves on the efforts we have made; neither do we demand as if we have a binding claim on God's graces and blessings. A humble heart, coupled with the letting go of our all, is important for the love we have for God and the trust we have in His promises.
Sincerity and perseverance of heart is essential when we make our prayers. It's important that our intentions be pure, our mind attune to the graces we are to receive, and our hearts are consistent with the methods of prayer we employ. The feet dip in the sands of perseverance as we see the cloud of the night join with the light of the morning, the light which is the joy of God's people. Hold your gird, remain steadfast in your heart, that the blessings of God would find you in that needful hour.
In all, the will of God should be our prime interest in all we request. And as we do, we should pray He grants us the eyes and mind to see His divine goodness in all we have petitioned. So, we remain thankful and ever ready to glorify His name.
God hears prayers, He answers when we call, and He delights in the praises of His people. The question is, do we know how to call on Him?
