Christ, Leadership and Holy Week
For so many years, in my corporate life, I rarely spent timing living in the moment. It was all about looking ahead, planning for the future, driving to accomplish something. Along the way, I missed being in the moment; savoring what was happening, at the time it happened.
Fast forward, and I now give a talk that people seem to love entitled “And Then God Gave Me A Time-out”. The talk is very much about what I learned when first I had a major leg injury, closely followed by stage 3 cancer. Between the two, I had 12 surgeries in 18 months, chemo and radiation. They were two big time-outs" and I was forced to sit quietly, with God. As I did, I was in the moment and became very present to God and the beauty around me. As I started doing more in and for my faith, I used my corporate marketing background to write the acclaimed book Marketing God, and how to use corporate marketing strategies to engage and bring more people to parishes and ministries.
We are truly living in an amazing time. Amazing in how difficult things are and amazing as we see God’s hand all around us. As we witness the horrors in Russia and the Ukraine, we were also witness to the Pope’s consecration of Russia, the Ukraine and the world. So many profound moments, that we are able to be present for right now. As a parish or organization, as you pay attention to what is happening in the world, you can chime in and share your voice in the moment, engaging and pulling others towards you as you do so.
Why do I mention this? Because in this week’s Marketing God Podcast, we spend time reflecting on Moments Matter. This week the topic is Marketing Tactics Insight with an intent to dive deep into a few critical insights around marketing tactics. One of those insights, moments truly matter. But, the importance of being in the moment is not the only tactical insight we explore. We address sweating the “small stuff” of marketing. We consider consistency versus complacency, we address the importance of being simple, focused and clear. In a world that seems to be focused on more, more, more, we also discuss why doing less can be so much more, in marketing. Building on the marketing strategy topics from last week, the podcast this week draws from Truth 14 - Focused, Simple and Clear: The Cornerstones of Your Organization’s Work, Truth 24 – Consistency is Intentional and Critical in Marketing, Truth 39 – It Is the Small Stuff That Makes the Biggest Difference, Truth 38 – Moments Matter, and Truth 5 – To Communicate Well, Less is More, all from the book Marketing God.
