Communion and Dollars

Each time we go to Mass, or pray either the Apostle's Creed or the Nicene Creed, we say, "I believe in the Communion of Saints." The Communion of Saints includes Saints on Earth, and in Heaven. I think that when people think of the Saints, they think about those who have been canonized, and are in Heaven. But there are Saints on Earth too. Those of us here in the Body of Christ are Saints.
Each of us here on Earth strives to be more holy, more like Christ, or more like one of the Saints that we admire. Each of us has the ability to be as humble and simple as Blessed Mother Teresa, or as holy as Saint Anthony. It does not take something spectacular or some special gift. God has given us all our own special gifts, and it's up to use them to the best of our abilities. Each of us should be striving for Sainthood, and for Heaven.
The Saints who have been canonized were not perfect. They had flaws, they sinned, they had their share of hard times like the rest of us. The difference is that someone saw something extra special about them. Hopefully all of us, young, old, married or single can live in such a way that someone sees something special in us. God made us all special and we were created as part of the Communion of Saints. I've met some awesome people in my life who have inspired me, who have lived very holy lives, who have very deep faith, or who have more faith they they know. I've met great people who have brought me closer to God, and there is no doubt that each of those people living here on Earth are Saints.
