Lessons From a Mother's Heart to Her College-Bound Daughter

We will be helping our youngest daughter, Grace, make the first-time move on campus in just a few days.  In all the excitement and chaos, how do I slow time to put into words she will hear, the things so important for her to know and understand?  Holy Spirit, come.  Fill my heart that I might convey these lessons that are monopolizing my worried heart; and permeate her heart to hear what You want her to hear. 

Indoctrination:  The process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically.  How can I help you to see that in the public school system today, young people are being taught a social justice mindset that on the surface seems loving and kind and good, but in reality, is a wolf in sheep’s clothing?  Our culture tells you “Love is love”, “Women’s rights are human rights”, “Black lives matter”…  Who could argue with these?  They seem so logical and true, and everyone who is “enlightened” is buying what the cool kids are selling. 

But, sweetheart, the devil is taking basic truths and he is twisting them into something that is warped and wrong.  He is the great deceiver, and I know you are rolling your eyes at your mother’s old-fashioned naiveté, but there is a Truth Who is greater than this loud world.  The world is clamoring for you to believe what they are dishing out and it is not truth.

Love is love.  What does that mean?  It is not “love” to go along with whatever a person decides to think about themselves and do.  Did we allow you to do whatever you wanted while you were growing up?  If you wanted to be a boy one day, or run into the street, or eat only junk food did we go along with that because it would be mean and hateful to try and raise you to know right from wrong?  No.  Love is desiring what is best for a another without any benefit to the one who loves. 

What is love?  I will tell you.  God is love.  God is not the “master of love”; He is love.  He is Truth.  He is the only Way.  The world is racing in all kinds of directions but the right one.  Relativism, the disjointed “ism” that says truth can be whatever you want it to be, has gone haywire.  Make no mistake.  Socialism, gender ideology, critical race theory are all examples of this. They are warped parts of a poisonous indoctrination that is working overtime to convince the minds of young people that all the generations that came before them were antiquated and prejudice. 

Your college classes taught by enlightened and worldly professors are going to speak a lot of language that everyone will believe and buy into.  I am praying that you will see truth for what it is, even though the vast majority will not.  It is a very difficult thing that I am asking.   The pressures to conform and believe a modern ideology contrary to real truth will be overwhelming.  I am praying everyday that you will have the strength to know and follow the Truth, Who is Jesus Christ. 

Jesus, O’ Eternal Truth, surround my daughter in Your goodness and Mercy.  Do not let her be separated from You.  Amen.
