Paschal Paradox

“Even when you are suffering intensely,

there is a part of you where you can take refuge.”

The Cross

and the suffering that Jesus endured

to be in union with our pain

is at the center

  of every human existence,

  whether known or unknown.

We all hurt

   at times;

we all need

   the salve of Divine Love

      to touch the torture

and bring us

  to a measure of relief

that will find its ultimate fulfillment

  on the day of our Resurrection.

For now,

   blessed by faith,

we sometimes can glimpse

  the rays of light

being refracted

  by our tears.

Even in agony

   there is a delicate hint

      of joy;

Even as the body of Christ

   was writhing in torture,

He was able to speak

    of paradise.

Seize hope:

it is your inheritance.
