Poem: Sheltered

Sheltered

O, Lord Christ,

that I may shelter in You,

protected,

shielded

from the chaos of the world.

Turn my mind from the news

   that hounds my mind,

     incessantly prattling,

churning like an unending

    roller coaster,

filled with violence, selfishness and hatred.

Help me turn from those stories

  to Your story

    promising resolution,

    and peace

      and ultimate redemption

        from disease of body and soul.

Heal my leprosy,

   banish my possession,

     calm my obsession;

let me kneel at Your feet

   and find my peace in prostration.

Nestle me in You,

let me live my life lost

in the realm of Your reality.

Let me crave You,

yearn for You,

desire You.

Sate me, O all-encompasing

   creative Energy,

Explode me

   in an evolution

     I cannot foretell,

for I am hardly a prophet.

Let the healing

and the peace

of my pre-dawn contemplation

touch the wounds

of the tormented multitude

   writhing in pandemic pain.

Bring us through it all

  to a new world

    You would have us discover,

wherein we will once again

   be able to give thanks

       and rejoice

          in Your victory.
