Viewer Discretion: Part 2

During these days of pandemic when travel can be extremely risky, I’d like to invite you to join me on a safe journey. No masks or hand sanitizer (or luggage) are necessary!!! This trip takes us far away. We travel with the most loving guide ever: The Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our destination is….the “Daily Pilgrimage to Purgatory“.
This devotion has a rich history dating back to the 1880’s. The practice can be done at home and thus can be prayed by the homebound as well as those with mobility who can say it at home or in a church. It is great to do solo…thus, a prayerful activity to focus on while social distancing.
As we help the Poor Souls reach their eternal reward we can be assured of their gratitude and prayers. In the state of today’s secular culture don’t we all need more prayers? And can’t we all use more friends in ‘high places’? How beautiful to know that we are being prayed for the these special souls!!!
The daily pilgrimage consists of several short segments. In union with Christ you make a journey to purgatory to help the souls since they can no longer help themselves. While praying this devotion you will offer your daily activities for their merit. They in turn, will pray for you to stay in a state of grace.
While praying we also perform several works of Mercy. Obviously it is a Spiritual Work of Mercy since we are “praying for the dead”. At the same time we can “comfort the sorrowful”. These souls are saved so feel happiness. Yet they have great sorrow as they have come to the full realization of the effects of their sins and their distance from God. We can also perform the Spiritual Work of Mercy to “forgive injuries”. If any of these souls have ever injured you this would be a beneficial time to forgive from your heart. It can be extremely difficult to forgive at times. But we are called to do so by God to be His children. And forgiving the Poor Souls for wrongs they committed to you personally is another huge act of love, very pleasing to God.
We also perform the Corporal Work of Mercy to “visit the imprisoned”. These special souls are detained. They can do nothing now to expedite their release. But our actions can help. By praying the Daily Pilgrimage to Purgatory you are visiting these souls who lived worldwide…both loved ones and complete strangers.
Each day you will discover specific prayers. Also you will learn what the Poor Souls regret and thus how you can try to reform to avoid long sufferings in purgatory, too. Each day has ‘pious exercises’ for your consideration, resolutions and spiritual insights for the particular day of the week.
Copies of this prayer pilgrimage can be found online here:
Or the paperback prayer booklet can be purchased online through various sources for under $4.00.
Let us safely travel, performing works of mercy together, with the Sacred Heart as our travel guide. And let us find fellowship with these dear souls who with gratitude will pray that we remain in a state of grace. What other travel destination can you experience that offers so much?
