Have We Lost Our Way to Civil Discourse?

Abortion matters.
Today, you're not supposed to bring up abortion. You're not supposed to say all lives matter, let alone all black lives matter. But how are we supposed to ignore the lives in the womb? When do these "lives" that we say matter begin?
As long as we advocate for abortion, neither 'Black Lives Matter' nor 'All Lives Matter' will make sense. You can shout black lives matter at 5:45, but if you support abortion, hypocrisy will meet you there at a quarter 'til six.
What makes us think we can stop world wars if a mother can kill her own child? An abortion doesn't merely take a life; it can erase entire generations. It is shocking to consider of the amount of people that would not be here had my grandmother been aborted. What abortion itself does is bad enough, but it’s true effects we will never fully know.
We rightfully despair and mourn when someone dies young (heck, even the fact that Kobe is gone is still shocking to me). We think about what might have been. We think of the potential, how much they still had to offer the world, and the opportunities they missed.
That feeling should increase tenfold when that life is taken at its very start, and not by accident. That feeling and knowledge never gets old.
I've been officially pro-life for about 24 years now. I was never pro-choice; I was just ignorant to the fact that something I thought was common sense was such a contentious issue. Because if you simplify the matter, it’s pretty clear: killing an innocent human being is always wrong. But what I've found is that in the abortion debate, the pro-choice person hardly ever mentions abortion itself. He will use euphemisms, he’ll talk about every circumstance, action, and predicament except the one the child finds themselves in.
I am not insensitive to the tough situations many women and families find themselves in. I am sympathetic and understanding to them. Having a child is not easy. Parenting is definitely not easy. There may be a whole host of circumstances that act like barriers, and there are issues that as a society we must address. I understand that. I just cannot be onboard with the unsaid part: "and therefore, this child must die."
It's hard to find any agreement on things nowadays. But if we really believe black lives matter, if we really believe all lives matter, then not taking those lives at their very beginning is the best start.
