I write this article with a deep sense of longing to see the end of the tunnel that we are all facing around the globe with the COVID – 19 virus. My anguish has led me to churn my inner self to the understanding of the present moment of this time in history. Just like major events that impact our world in periods during history, this is the moment which can change us for better or for worse. Let us take hold of the rein and make change for the betterment of mankind by keeping these four simple principles in mind:
- Pray: Pray without ceasing. We are all called to pray to God for our daily needs, but in times like these we should be spending more time in prayer so that the enemy of doubt, anguish and fear will not take over our everyday lives. Let us use this moment in history to change our daily lives to include prayer as a necessity rather than an option.
- Learn: Some people, who have gone through the Great Depression, tend to hoard a lot of stuff because it changed them. Let us not fear but rather learn new habits of self-hygiene and care which can help us in the long run to be a more healthy and prosperous generation.
- Act: Let us act out our Christian values of compassion and kindness by not going to places where we really don’t have a pressing need. As mentioned in the Jewish Talmud: “One who saves a life, saves the whole world.” Let our selfish needs not be the cause of carrying and transmitting this virus to our fellow mankind. Please act with wisdom that stems out of love for our fellow human beings since your decisions could impact the mental, spiritual, financial and physical health of other children of God.
- Hope: Hope is an amazing virtue when we use it properly. Let us hope joyfully and grow in holiness. Pray with hope, that regardless of what the consequences we have to go through together as a society, that God will take care of us.
We will get through this together with the blessings and love of our Heavenly Father.
